AMG Review
by Jason Ankeny
Recorded live at the newly reopened Sydney Opera House, this massive double album captures Don Burrows in transition -- after whittling his backing unit to a quartet, a move that excised piano from his arsenal, the flutist turned his music increasingly inward, exploring space and atmosphere with new intensity. Anchored by longtime guitarist George Golla, Burrows creates mellow, soft-focus jazz influenced by both American soul and Latin pop -- many songs showcase long, richly nuanced solos by bassist Ed Gaston and/or drummer Alan Turnbull, culminating with a simmering soul-jazz cover of Nat Adderley's "Sweet Emma."

Very important question Cheeba, which cover is the original double one, is it the top one with Australian album of the year on it?
Hi Andy, the bottom one is the original 2LP Australian release on Cherry Pie.
The top one is the MRL reissue
Thanks Cheeba, can get a good copy of the single album for $18NZ but will leave it,as I am currently un employed with no income on the horizon. My wife would be asking serious questions. :-(
No worries, Andy. My wife cocks her eyeborws at some of the vinyl costs and I am currently employed.
Since this will be the only MRL left unposted here (spoiler: will be posting a handful at Soundological the next week or so) I'm sure some kind soul will step up.
If not, I will bite the bullet and buy the double if necessary.
Hope your situation w/ employment gets better soon, mate! Keep the faith!
Courtesy of Matthew from Colorado, ripped just for all you shacksters! Please be sure to thank him for his efforts!

Thanks for
[MRL 416] Don Burrows - Live at the Sydney Opera House
I am a lover and collector of jazz guitar recordings. As an Australian, I'm especially interested in George Golla's playing. I only heard him once, before I'd learned to love jazz guitar, but he was very good. Played 7-string.
